The CD Essentials were conceived by MacTec Products in order to provide CD consumers with essential accessories that were not available in the marketplace. As a music and computer enthusiast, the company's founder, Brian McCracken, invented its first products for himself purely out of necessity as his collection grew. After patenting several inventions, he decided to market them directly to the consumer and eventually to the music retail marketplace, and thus MacTec Products and the CD Essentials product line were born.
After three years, the product line has grown to over twenty products and is sold in most major audio & video retail chains (see Where to Find the CD Essentials page). With the advent of CD-ROMs and other types of CDs , the company has successfully entered the computer and electronic entertainment retail arenas as well.
The most famous product, the EZ-CD™ Opener, has not only become the hottest retail accessory, but has quickly become the most highly sought-after promotional item since the letter opener. It has been used by companies such as Sony, Microsoft, and Coca-Cola as an advertising freebie. It has also successfully been used as a premium item and an on-pack value-added item by other manufacturers.
Mr. McCracken and the CD Essentials have been written about in U.S. News and World Report, the New York Times, the International Herald Tribune, along with many other publications (see Testimonials page). They have also been seen on the NBC affiliate America's Talking Network, Good Morning America, the Mike & Matty Show, and several local news stations.
The company has its roots in innovation and continues to develop highly-functional products that are either completely unique in the marketplace or have distinct competitive advantages over similar products from other vendors.
